Hi everyone, Im back home briefly from the Tamworth Festival.
It was a wonderful week, with Tamworth celebrating 40 years of the country music festival. It was just like days of old, the town packed full of happy music fans enjoying an incredible variety of music talent in unusually mild and pleasant weather.
The awards on Saturday are the usual highlight of the week. I was up for "Instrumental of the year", but this year the coveted prize went to the Davidson Brothers, a young & talented duo who have been 'kicking goals" all year with their energetic brand of bluegrass. My congratulations go to them!
The awards concert contained a good deal of nostalgia, in keeping with the theme "Looking Forward, Looking Back", and featured some beautiful musical moments, my favorite being Graeme Connors & Aleyce Simmonds performance of "The Bondwood Boat." A stunning song.
The Golden Guitars were spread across a range of artists, making it a more interesting awards night than when one artist scoops the lot! You can see the results here Congrats to all the winners.
I presented a series of free shows this year at The Atrium, along with my friends Nadia Sunde, Paul Robert Burton, Andrew Toner, Christian Marsh, Pixie, and enjoyed the company of a number of special guest who joined me on stage: Mark Cryle, Justin McCoy, Brendan Radford, Andrew Toner, and Rose Carleo.
It was very intense week, & I'm glad to be home, albeit briefly to wrap up a recording project before heading of to New Zealand for a ten day tour.
The pic is me underneath my pole banner in Tamworth. It was strange seeing my face flapping in the breeze!
